Topical tacrolimus (Protopic) has FDA approval and is commonly used for dermatitis and psoriasis. It’s action on T-cellsĀ  (types of white blood cells known as lymphocytes) made it a natural for trials on alopecia areata patients, AA also being a T-cell mediated condition.
