So bring the family to BGDL or meet up with them later…..but don’t miss this chance to savor the new connections you’ll make.

Your funds help us: teach about wigs and insurance reimbursement; educate about treatments and clinical trials; advise on baldness in the workplace; restore self-confidence and the means to say, ” I have alopecia and it’s ok”.

Yes!! Psychosocial support!

February 6th, 2010 by Chassin

Presented below is the concluding paragraph and final sentence in the February, 2010 JAAD (Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology) feature article “Alopecia Areata Update: Part II Treatment”. (Italics and bolding added)

“There has been little progress in the treatment of AA in  the past decade, and ILCSs are still the preferred method of treatment for most patients. Newer topical and systemic agents (eg. biologics) have been tried, but the outcomes have been unattractive. We are still in need of developing treatment options for refractory cases and for specific hair-bearing sites ( ie eyelashes) where treatment choices are almost nonexistent. Because of higher psychiatric morbidity in patients with AA, psychosocial support is a valuable tool in any management plan.

Thank you to authors  Alkhalifah, AlsantaliWang McElwee, and Shapiro for the inclusion of this important statement in this prestigious journal.

Demand for BGDL grows

March 2nd, 2009 by Chassin

We need you and your friends to make donations now with our Donate Now button.

All across the US and Canada women with alopecias are requesting BGDL lunches. Women with AA want to meet others with AA, but they cannot do it alone.

We make it happen. But we cannot make it happen without more financial support.

We run a very lean nonprofit organization with no paid salaries and a skeletal staff.

If you have sent money in the past down the big black hole of other organizations to ‘find a cure and better treatments’   it does nothing to help women cope and accept their alopecia today. And not only women…the work of BGDL also includes counseling mothers of boys and girls with alopecias via email, phone and our honest discussions  at alopeciaworld.com.

Do you like that we have up-to-date research information? Then Donate Now

Just yesterday a woman at the Beauty Event told me that a little script I coached her on a couple of years ago to talk about her alopecia has changed her life - from one of shame and secrecy to one of normalcy and relief.

Do you think these efforts are worthwhile? Then Donate Now so BGDL can help more women like her.

Do you think that our Photo Gallery and Testimonials help everyone understand alopecia better? Then please Donate Now
